Transforming parking spaces into temporary parks is a creative way to raise awareness about the importance of creating more sustainable and engaging urban environments. The event will incorporate educational activities and games to engage participants and inspire a new generation of landscape architects, urban planners and environmental leaders. This type of hands-on experience can have a lasting impact on how people view public spaces and the possibilities for creating more vibrant and people-friendly streetscapes.

This event is in collaboration with American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter (ASLA-NY), NYC Public Design Commission, NYC Planning, Uptown Grand Central, Open Plans, Civitas, Kompan, and Urban Garden Center.

Join us on East Harlem’s Restaurant Row to engage with students, community members to kick off Climate Week! Come for an hour or all day

We are looking for volunteers on the Day of to help set up, engage with students, assist with activities, and talk about how landscape architects and urban planners are addressing climate issues.

PARK(ing) Day is an annual international event where residents, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform curbside parking spots into public spaces. Activations often take the form of creating temporary parklets for community use and providing opportunities for art and civic engagement. The mission of these happenings is to call attention to the importance of urban open space and generate a dialogue about the benefits of public green space to elevate the health and quality of urban life for the surrounding neighborhood.
